Maine CHOICES Comprehensive Employment Oppportunities

state of Maine

The Maine CHOICES CEO (Comprehensive Employment Opportunities) project seeks to develop and implement a comprehensive statewide plan to support more people with disabilities who work, or would like to work.

The project will also improve information about, and access to, some key work incentives for Maine people with disabilities. Maine CHOICES CEO builds on the strength of work incentives in MaineCare, Vocational Rehabilitation, and in many other service programs.

Funded through 2008, Maine CHOICES CEO Project involves strategic planning with key project partners, surveys and other research, outreach and information dissemination, and program development activities.

Its goals are:

  • Maine will complete a comprehensive strategic assessment that identifies opportunities, resources and strategies for systems change to maximize the competitive employment of Maine people with disabilities
  • Maine will engage employers to identify barriers to hiring and retention of workers with disabilities and include employer priorities in the statewide strategic plan
  • Maine will increase the numbers of enrollees in the MaineCare Workers with Disabilities Option (Medicaid Buy-In), and will increase average wages for individuals enrolled in this Option
  • Maine will increase the numbers of people on SSI/SSDI who receive benefits counseling about how working will affect their benefits, the numbers who go to work, and the numbers of people who increase their earnings
